Competitions

Spelthorne Group Meeting Competition

Held on 12.5.23 

Sunbury Village WI get third prize in the Spelthorne Group Meeting craft competition

Brief - Repurposing into a useful or decorative item any of the following: Jam Jars, Tin Cans, Toilet or Kitchen roll inserts. Use a maximum of 3 in any combination plus any other medium to complete this craft, Size to fit on an A4 sheet of paper.


WI Resolutions

2023 Resolution voting

WI 2023 Resolution - VOTING has closed 
Every member had the opportunity to cast their individual selection on the resolution they support the most. Sunbury Village WI committee has now submit your resolution choice to the Middlesex Federation.

The shortlisted resolutions were:

  1. Save our water - every drop matters
  2. Women to women - turning over a new leaf in the lives of women tea workers
  3. Online gambling harm: time for action
  4. Clean rivers for people and wildlife  (SVWI - had the highest votes, this option was submitted


Next steps, resolutions votes from all the WI's go forward to the national votes.  The final resolution for adoption by the WI is decided at the National AGM in May.

Community Support

Raffle

Thank you to members for supporting the raffle with gift donations and participation. The raffle proceeds go to support local charities, a donation was made to Surplus to Supper last year, this year a request from members was made to support Sunbury Neighbours, in addition we were approached to support the purchase of a resource for the Sunbury Menopause Cafe.

Knitters

Thank you, knitters

Sunbury Village WI members make twiddle muffs and blankets - in January 2023 we received a message of huge thanks from the Dementia lead at Ashford and St Peters Hospital  who reported just how valuable they are at keeping people safe and amused.

Donations

A donation of £78.76 was made to the Brigette Trust following our charity night talk at the February WI evening 2023. 

Christmas 2022 saw Sunbury Village WI support the St Saviour's appeal gifts - thank you to all our member for their overwhelming generosity.

 At our March 2022 evening we supported our speaker, John Tye's Charity Dreamflight with a donation of £116.32 this local charity takes children with a serious illness or disability on their holiday of a lifetime to Orlando. . For more information visit https://www.dreamflight.org/  


Community Events

Sunbury Village WI took part in the Village Jubilee celebration event on Orchard Meadow on the 4th June 2022, by hosting a local competition to find a cake to celebrate The Queen (WI President) in her platinum year. The competition was open to local people as well as WI members. The cakes were then sold to raise money for the The Sunbury Gallery development.  

On the afternoon of Saturday 21st May 2022, Sunbury Village WI and Sunbury on Thames WI hosted a Platinum Jubilee Tea Party in partnership with Sunbury Neighbours for local elderly residents.
